At the age of ten I wrote my memoir, A Week Old to Ten & have been in love with personal narrative ever since. I continued on to author four more titles, receiving PNBA and WA State Book Award nominations. My essays have been published in over twenty five publications and anthologies.

In between living abroad and in every region of the US, I earned a BA in multicultural literature and my Master’s thesis focused on the power of narrative while working with homeless women. I began my editing career as the junior editor at a diversity consulting firm and publishing house.

In 2000 I became the editor of Verve magazine, featuring entrepreneurial women. In 2002 I began my freelance editing and coaching business helping hundreds of writers become published. I have/had contracts with UW School of Law, Lesson Ladder, Girl Friday and other publishers.

I have taught writing for over twenty years at colleges, conferences, Hugo House, prisons, Write on the Sound, Whidbey Institute, Swedish Hospital, etc. and have been the Executive Director of two nonprofits devoted to mental health and promoting underserved voices.
